Determined Children

Do you have a child that seems to here the word "no" as a challenge? Do you have that child that seems to take charge of the other children, and sometimes adults, in order to get something accomplished.

congratulations you have a Determined Child. The "D" Child is driven by an fast paced internal motor and his compass is focused on the task. This child can be characterized as Determined, Demanding, Decisive, Doer, and sometimes defiant. Dobson calls them the "Strong-willed child".

If you are still unsure if this is your child, or you knowing it is your child you want some more info keep reading.

Clues to determine if your child is in fact a "D" type personality.

1. What? This word is used by them when processing information. For example when asking them if they want to go to the movies they will tend to ask "What are we going to watch?"

2. Speech Patterns are direct, abrupt, and interrupting.

3. Their body language will usually involve big gestures, and may invade personal space.

4. The best way to do everything is the fast way.

5. Takes Risk

6. Like to do things themselves.

7. Hardly ever slows down. Compared to other children, not to us adults.

8. Does not give up or in very easily when facing obstacles.

My oldest Walker has some of all of the 4 types, like most of us do, but his "D" and "I" are the dominant traits. He is a risk taker as evident by the many trips to the hospital, and his love of skateboarding. He does have abrupt speech patterns since he wants to get to the point. Walker likes to do things himself, even if he has no clue how to do it. He also uses big gestures and body movements especially when he gets excited.

Keep in mind that you child will be a mixture of all four personality types so check back in next week to look at the "I" type Child.

Hint - Pick your fights wisely and never threaten to do something you will not do. Every time you do not go through with what you say, they lose respect for you and your authority.
